Cautions When Using Strong Base Anion Exchange Resin
Cautions When Using Strong Base Anion Exchange Resin
1. Keep the level of moisture
The strong base anion exchange resin contains a certain amount of moisture and should not be stored in the open air. During the storage and transportation, it should be kept moist to avoid air drying and dehydration, which will cause the resin to break. If dehydrated during the storage, the resin should be soaked in concentrated salt water (25%) and then gradually diluted. Do not put the resin into water directly in case of rapid expansion and breakage.
2. Keep the level of temperature
During the storage and transportation in winter, it should be kept at a temperature between 5-40 ℃ to avoid supercooling or overheating, which may affect the quality. If there is no thermal insulation equipment in winter, the resin can be stored in brine, and the concentration of salt water can be determined according to the temperature.
3. Impurity removal
The industrial products with strong base anion exchange resin often contain a small amount of low polymer and monomer not participating in the reaction, as well as inorganic impurities such as iron, lead and copper. The new resin must be pretreated before being put into use. Generally, the resin is put into water to make it fully expand. Then the inorganic impurities (mainly compounds of iron) can be removed by 4-5% dilute hydrochloric acid, and the organic impurities can be removed with the 2-4% dilute sodium hydroxide solution and then washed with water to near neutral. If used in pharmaceutical preparation, it must be soaked in ethanol.
4. Periodic activation treatment
In the use of the resin, it can prevent the oil and organic molecules of metal (such as iron, copper) from being diluted step by step. Negative resins are susceptible to organic contamination. If necessary, it can be soaked in 1% hydrogen peroxide solution for several minutes, or treated with acid-base alternating treatment, bleaching treatment, alcohol treatment and various sterilization methods.
